IPC/WHMA A-620 enjoyed immediate international acceptance since its first release in 2002 and quickly became the most important process, materials, and inspection standard for the cable and wire harness industry.
Most electrical and electronic assemblies and products get connected, one way or another, to something else via a cable or wire harness of sort or include internal connections and cabling. Faulty cables can be among the hardest items to diagnose, especially as cables harnesses are used in adverse environments such as automotive or aerospace.

What is covered in A-620 training?
The IPC/WHMA A-620 is the first industry standard for cable and wire harness fabrication and installation. The course enables delegates to understand procedures for fault finding, rectification, methods of soldering cable and wire harness assemblies. The standard describes criteria for crimped, mechanically secured, and soldered interconnections.
Once certified your team will have the knowledge and ability to inspect:
- Crimp terminations and insulation displacement
- Splices
- Soldered terminations
- Cable and wire preparation
- Marking, labelling and finished assemblies
All IPC/WHMA A-620 courses cover the three product classes
- Class 1 – General electronic products such as hair dryers, cameras, domestic audio / visual appliances
- Class 2 – Dedicated service electronic products such as printers, computers, mobile phones
- Class 3 – High reliability / critical electronic products such as those used in military, aerospace and medical
What is the duration of the A-620 course and how is it delivered?
The IPC/WHMA A-620 course can be delivered in three ways.
- At our Leeds training centre
- Remotely
- On-site with customers
The CIS level is a three-day course, whilst the CSE and CIT are both four-day courses.
What do I need for the course?
Each delegate will need a copy of the IPC/WHMA A-620 standard (book), Table of Contents, and latest IPC Policies and Procedures. We are happy to loan copies of standards to any delegate joining our training courses, should you not wish to purchase your own copy. For remote training, you will also need a laptop with microphone and webcam to join in with the classes and sit your IPC exams.
Are there any prerequisites to studying for the certification?
Whilst there are no prerequisites to enrolling for the A-620 course, we do recommend that delegates have the necessary knowledge of industry terminology and basic understanding of cable manufacture, wire harnessing and soldering.
What is included in the course cost?
Included in the fee is tuition for the full duration of the course and all certification costs. We also include loan copies of relevant standards and Chromebooks for exams, if needed. CIT delegates will also receive downloadable training materials upon successful completion of the course.
